About Riverwalk Golf Club
Golf in this stretch of Mission Valley began in 1947, when Mission Valley Golf Club opened on land leased from the Levi and Cushman families, with only a shack for a clubhouse. Renamed Stardust Country Club in 1962, it hosted the San Diego Open (today's Farmers Insurance Open) many times; Arnold Palmer won twice, and Gary Player and Billy Casper also won there. Stardust closed in 1996 when its lease ended, and Ted Robinson Sr. and Jr. rebuilt it as the 27-hole Riverwalk Golf Club, which reopened in 1998 along the San Diego River. The city has since approved the Riverwalk plan to redevelop the site.
