Why we love this place

This is where Robert Trent Jones Sr. got his start, and the views over Sodus Bay explain why anyone would fall for the game here. We love the Cornish layout, the Jones family ninth green and a lakeside setting that makes every round feel like a summer holiday.

About Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club

Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club opened in 1924 as a nine-hole course on the former Blackmar Farm overlooking Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario, land once owned by a countess from Paris. The architect of that original nine is unknown, and despite a long-running rumor, Robert Trent Jones Sr. did not design it; instead he began his legendary career here as the club's first head golf professional in the early 1930s. In the 1960s a member committee planned an expansion, and Geoffrey Cornish of Amherst, Massachusetts, redesigned the existing holes and added a second nine; the eighteen-hole course was dedicated on May 25, 1969. In 2014 Robert Trent Jones Jr. sketched a new ninth green in honor of his father, and he dedicated it in May 2015 by striking the first ceremonial putts.
