The Bear's Club was founded in 1999 by Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara as an ultra-exclusive private golf community in Jupiter, realizing Nicklaus's vision for a first-rate South Florida club. The 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course, routed through native pine, palmetto, wetlands and preserve on land once owned by John D. MacArthur, opened for play in 2000. The club is known for its exclusivity and many touring-professional members.
