Treetops Resort

Treetops Resort rises from the wooded hills near Gaylord in northern Michigan, a four-season destination that began as a ski property in the early 1980s before becoming one of the Midwest's great golf resorts. Its signature layout, the Masterpiece, was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., who stood on the site in 1985 and declared he would build his masterpiece there; it opened in 1987 and was named Golf Digest's number-two new resort course in the country. The course tumbles through dramatic elevation, most famously a par-3 with a roughly 120-foot drop, the vista that inspired Jones to coin the name Treetops. The resort later added courses from Tom Fazio (Premier) and Rick Smith (Signature and the acclaimed par-3 Threetops), giving Treetops one of the most celebrated multi-course collections in American resort golf.
