About Wachesaw Plantation East
Wachesaw Plantation East opened in 1996 as a public Clyde Johnston design set on former rice-plantation ground beside Murrells Inlet. Johnston drew inspiration from Scotland's parkland courses, framing fairways with grass berms and bunkering and accenting them with live oaks, Carolina pines, and freshwater lakes. The course quickly earned a tournament pedigree few daily-fee layouts can match, hosting four nationally televised LPGA Tour events: the 1997 Susan G. Komen International, the City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic in 1998 and 1999, and the 2000 Kathy Ireland/Greens.Com Classic. Those fields drew stars including Annika Sorenstam and two-time site winner Karrie Webb, and Meg Mallon famously fired a course-record 62. The layout was later named the area association's 2007-08 Golf Course of the Year, cementing its reputation as championship-caliber public golf.
