The North Course dates to the club's founding era (1964) as part of the original PGA National Golf Club designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee; it first opened as a nine, with a second nine by Joe Lee added in 1969. The facility hosted the 1971 PGA Championship, won by Jack Nicklaus, and was once home to the PGA of America headquarters before the club was renamed BallenIsles in 1988.
