About Bayou Oaks At City Park
Golf at New Orleans City Park began in 1902 with a 9-hole layout by John Tobin, growing to four municipal courses. Pioneering Black architect Joseph M. Bartholomew co-designed the East (1935) and North (1968) courses with landscape architect William Wiedorn, yet under Jim Crow segregation he was legally barred from playing the public courses he built. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the complex in 2005; the North Course reopened in 2009, and a Rees Jones-designed championship South Course opened in 2017 as part of a multimillion-dollar rebuild. It is now the only public 36-hole golf complex in New Orleans.
