Why we love this place

The people's major — a brutal state-park muni that became the first publicly owned course to host the U.S. Open, and site of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

About Bethpage Black

The Black Course opened in 1936 as a New Deal public-works project and became the first publicly owned and operated course to host the U.S. Open, in 2002 (won by Tiger Woods, the only man under par). It hosted a second Open in 2009, the 2019 PGA Championship (Brooks Koepka), and the 2025 Ryder Cup.
