The Denison Golf Club is a Donald Ross design that opened in 1925. Granville native John Sutphin Jones, who made his fortune in railroads, coal and finance, built it to complement his Granville Inn. Some holes were later rerouted during lean years, and a 1987 owner repaired stream erosion and upgraded conditioning. In 2014 the stockholders of the Granville Golf Course Company gave the course and the Inn to Denison University, which opened the course to the public. Its 63 bunkers and rolling, wooded terrain make it one of the most admired public Ross courses in the Midwest.
