Why we love this place
We love John Pitman for being the kind of town course golf needs. Hereford's city-run eighteen keeps the High Plains wind honest, the fees friendly and the Tierra Blanca Classic going every year, a true community hub in cattle country.

About John Pittman Golf Club
John Pitman Golf Club is the City of Hereford's municipal course, set near downtown Hereford in Deaf Smith County, about 45 miles southwest of Amarillo on the High Plains. The city owns and operates the eighteen holes, staffed by a Class A PGA professional, a GCSA superintendent and a small full-time maintenance crew. Records differ on its age: one listing gives 1939 as the year built and 1950 as the year the 18-hole course opened, and the city does not publish a history. The par-71 layout stretches about 6,545 yards from the back tees and offers a driving range, chipping area and putting green. Golf Digest has listed it among its Places to Play in Texas, and it is home to the Tierra Blanca Classic, the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce's annual two-person event.
