The Soffer Course began as the South course at Aventura, where developer Don Soffer hired Robert Trent Jones Sr. to build 36 holes on former swampland north of Miami; the courses opened around 1971. After Soffer reacquired the resort in 2005, Raymond Floyd led a multimillion-dollar rebuild, trucking in fill to lift fairways and greens; it reopened in late 2006 as the longer, tougher of the two courses, with a waterfall beside the 18th green, and has hosted LPGA events.
