About Links At Hiawatha Landing

The Links at Hiawatha Landing opened in the early 1990s in Apalachin, just west of Binghamton, on low ground along the Susquehanna River between the Finger Lakes and the Catskills. It was designed by Brian Silva and Mark Mungeam, with Mungeam handling most of the on-site work during construction. Their design leans on links ideas, with open, rolling fairways, sand bunkering and firm, natural contours, though its inland river setting makes it closer to a heathland course than a true seaside links. The front nine crosses the river floodplain while the back nine climbs onto more rolling terrain, and water comes into play on seven holes. One feature proved influential: the punchbowl green Mungeam built at the 11th hole inspired Silva to include many more distinctive, sometimes fully blind greens on his later projects. The course has long been a public, pay-and-play favorite in the Southern Tier.
