Long Cove Club

Long Cove Club grew out of Hilton Head Island's Sea Pines legacy: founders David Ames, Joseph Webster III and Wes Wilhelm, who had learned community development at the Sea Pines Company, sold the first home lots in August 1980 and welcomed early members soon after. Pete Dye, with wife and design partner Alice Dye, routed the course through salt marsh, tidal lagoons, pine stands and live oaks. The back nine opened in November 1981 and the front nine the following spring. Dye's construction crew became a legendary nursery of talent, including Bobby Weed, Tom Doak, Ron Farris, Scott Pool and his son P.B. Dye, many of whom went on to their own design careers. By 1985 Golf Digest ranked Long Cove among the nation's top twenty courses, and it held Top 100 status for decades.
