About Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course

The Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course ("The Max") is a City of Laredo course that opened for play on October 19, 2012, as a Robert Trent Jones II signature design. It is named for Laredo banker and civic leader Max A. Mandel, whose family donated the 270-acre site, $1 million and irrigation water rights. The routing runs through sandy, rugged South Texas terrain with four holes along the Rio Grande and six through deep arroyos. Managed by Troon, it has been ranked No. 40 among U.S. municipal courses by Golfweek (2013) and No. 9 in GolfPass's 2025 Best Public Courses in Texas.
