Memorial Park Golf Course

Memorial Park is one of America's great municipal golf stories. The site opened as a nine-hole, sand-green course in 1912, then reopened in July 1936 as a full eighteen following a redesign by John Bredemus, the architect often called the father of Texas golf, who reportedly considered it among his finest work. The muni hosted the Houston Open in 1947 and again through the 1950s and early 1960s. Ahead of the PGA Tour's return in 2020, the Astros Golf Foundation funded a roughly $15 million overhaul completed in 2019, entrusting the redesign to Tom Doak with four-time major winner Brooks Koepka as consultant. Their work preserved much of Bredemus's character while modernizing the challenge, producing a roughly 7,300-yard layout that hosts a Tour event yet still welcomes everyday players at city rates.
