Metropolitan Golf Links opened in April 2003 on the Oakland waterfront, replacing the former Lew Galbraith Golf Course. Built on a capped landfill under the Oakland Airport flight paths, it was designed by Johnny Miller and architect Fred Bliss as a links-style layout, opening after roughly eight years of environmental and regulatory obstacles.
