Neshobe Golf Course

Est. 1959 · Steve Durkee (1996 18-hole layout; original 1959 nine member-built)
Why we love this place

Neshobe is a member-built club that grew into a championship stage, good enough for the 2025 New England Amateur. Steve Durkee's 18 roll across old farmland beside the Neshobe River, and the place is famous for opening first in spring and closing last in fall.

About Neshobe Golf Course

Brandon had gone without golf since its old country club closed in 1944 when a group of local players set out in 1957 to build a new course. They settled on farmland beside the Neshobe River along Town Farm Road, formed Neshobe Golf Club, Inc. in October 1958 with shares at $50, and bought the 45-acre site that December. Members built the nine-hole course and clubhouse largely by their own labor, and it opened on Memorial Day, May 30, 1959. In 1988 the club bought 74 more acres to expand, hired architect Steve Durkee in 1992, and broke ground in 1994; after a contractor dispute, members finished the work themselves and the 18-hole course opened in May 1996. Neshobe hosted the 2011 Vermont Amateur, recovered from Tropical Storm Irene that year, passed to Milne Golf in 2020, and hosted the New England Amateur for the first time in 2025.
