New Bern Golf & Country Club was founded in 1920 as a nine-hole course with sand greens; Donald Ross reportedly praised the site as one of the best natural golf locations he had seen. Ellis Maples designed the current 18-hole layout in 1947 while serving as the club's golf professional and general manager, and a renovation led by architect Bob Moore took place in 2017. It is a private, member-owned country club on the Trent River.
