Northgreen opened in 1975 as a 7,200-yard par-72 championship course designed by J. Porter Gibson and Bob Toski. It hosted the ACC Golf Tournament in the 1980s and 1990s but declined after the tournament left Rocky Mount. A new owner bought it in 2023 and has been restoring it. It is semi-private, open to public play with memberships available.
