Atlantic Pines Golf Club

Est. 2008 · Brian Silva
Why we love this place

We love Atlantic Pines for its architecture-nerd heart. Brian Silva packed Redans, Capes, an Alps and a Double Plateau into a coastal Maine pine forest, and the result is a strategic, endlessly replayable round. A Macdonald and Raynor tribute you can actually book a tee time on.

About Atlantic Pines Golf Club

Atlantic Pines Golf Club, formerly The Old Marsh Country Club, sits in Wells near Maine's southern coast. The eighteen-hole course was built in 2008 by architect Brian Silva, who designed it as an homage to the Golden Age work of Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor. Its routing borrows the classic template holes those architects made famous: an Alps at the second, a Redan at the fifth set into an existing landform, a Double Plateau green at the eleventh, and a Cape at the thirteenth followed by a Son of Cape at the sixteenth, while the seventh green nods to the putting surfaces of Pinehurst No. 2. In its first year of operation the course earned a top-ten national ranking from GOLF Magazine. Under the Flynn family's ownership, the club has invested in bunker drainage and new sand, irrigation, and equipment, and Silva returned to walk all eighteen holes and advise on restoring his original design.
