Pasatiempo Gc

Pasatiempo was the vision of Marion Hollins, a U.S. Women's Amateur champion and golf entrepreneur who imagined a sporting estate above Santa Cruz. She commissioned Alister MacKenzie to build the course, and it opened on September 8, 1929, with Hollins joined by Bobby Jones, Glenna Collett and Cyril Tolley for the first round before a large gallery. MacKenzie so loved the layout that he built his home along the sixth fairway and reportedly rated it among his very finest work. Its bold bunkering, contoured greens and the dramatic downhill sixteenth are studied by architects to this day. Crucially for everyday golfers, Pasatiempo remains the only original MacKenzie design in the world open to the public. A recent restoration led by Jim Urbina, completed in December 2024, rebuilt all eighteen greens and bunkers to the 1929 plans.
