Quail Lodge Golf Club

Quail Lodge Golf Club opened in the summer of 1964 as Carmel Valley Golf and Country Club, the first course built in Carmel Valley and a sun-drenched alternative to the fog-prone layouts on the nearby Monterey Peninsula. Architect Robert Muir Graves routed the course over roughly 240 acres of former farmland, using sand-based construction for superior drainage. The facility was renamed Quail Lodge in 1988 after broadcasters repeatedly referred to 'the Golf Club at Quail Lodge' during the Spalding Invitational, a professional non-tour event whose champions included Johnny Miller and Peter Oosterhuis. The club also hosted the 1975 USGA Senior Amateur and has long been home to the California State Women's Amateur Championship. In 2015, architect Todd Eckenrode led a redesign that modernized the resort layout while preserving its parkland-and-water character.
