Ruth Lake Country Club

Ruth Lake Country Club grew out of a 1922 venture by nine local businessmen who leased roughly 160 acres around Ruth Lake in Hinsdale, Illinois, for hunting, sailing, and golf. Golf on the property began with a nine laid out by David Foulis, and the full eighteen-hole course officially opened on July 28, 1923; the design is generally credited to the respected Midwestern partnership of William Langford and Theodore Moreau. True to its name, the club's lake is its defining feature, most prominent on a back nine where water repeatedly comes into play, including a short par four that bends along the shoreline. The course has been refreshed over the years, with restoration work by Arthur Hills in 2005 and a full bunker renovation led by J. Drew Rogers around 2018 to 2019. Today it endures as a well-regarded private club in Chicago's western suburbs.
