Opened in summer 1985 as the final course design of George W. Cobb, it was originally South Carolina National Golf Club and later the Sanctuary Golf Club. It closed abruptly in January 2019. Resort Development Partners bought it in June 2022, John LaFoy restored Cobb's original design, and it reopened in fall 2022 as the private Cat Island Club.
