Talking Stick Golf Club

Talking Stick sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, whose two peoples, the Akimel O'odham and Xalychidom Piipaash, have farmed the Salt River Valley for generations. The tribe developed the club as a sustainable economic venture, and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw began routing two contrasting 18-hole courses across flat Sonoran desert in 1997, opening them in 1998. The O'odham Course (originally the North) is the firm's tribute to the windswept links tradition, with wide, running fairways, few trees and hard, fast turf. The Piipaash Course (originally the South) is a softer, parkland-style layout threaded with cottonwoods and water. Both courses take their names from the community's tribes, and every hole carries a name in the O'odham language, weaving cultural identity through the design.
