Why we love this place
Basin Harbor is lakeside golf with more than a century of family resort history behind it. Geoffrey Cornish polished a layout that grew hole by hole since 1916, and the Lake Champlain setting makes every round feel like a summer holiday.
Golf at Basin Harbor dates to 1916, when A.P. Beach, a second-generation host of the lakeside resort near Vergennes, laid out a few holes on the property. In 1927 the course grew to nine holes laid out by Alex "Nipper" Campbell, a Scottish professional, and in 1955 it expanded to 18 holes, roughly the routing played today. The resort hired Geoffrey Cornish in 1980 to renovate and modernize the course, the last major evolution of the layout. The Golf Club at Basin Harbor sits on the shore of Lake Champlain and serves both resort guests and members, with a full-service pro shop and an active calendar of outings and tournaments. In 2026 Basin Harbor announced a partnership with Milne Golf, which owns and operates Neshobe and Rocky Ridge, aimed at better course conditions, expanded programming and reciprocal play for members.
