The cradle of American championship golf — where amateur Francis Ouimet toppled the pros at the 1913 U.S. Open. But the story doesn't end at the gates: across the street, Brookline's public muni carries the other half — golf that belongs to everyone.

About The Country Club
Founded in 1882, The Country Club is generally regarded as the oldest country club in America and one of the five charter clubs that founded the USGA in 1894. Golf came later — members laid out the first holes in 1893, and the course took shape over many hands, from Scottish pro Willie Campbell to William Flynn's 1927 work and modern restorations by Rees Jones and Gil Hanse. It hosted the storied 1913 U.S. Open won by amateur Francis Ouimet, the 1999 Ryder Cup, and U.S. Opens in 1963, 1988, and 2022.
