Beaver Meadow Golf Course

Est. 1896 · Willie Campbell; Geoffrey Cornish (1968 expansion to 18)
Why we love this place

Beaver Meadow is where New Hampshire golf began, a $50 Willie Campbell nine from 1896 that grew into a city-owned 18 still hosting state championships. We love that the state's oldest course is a muni anyone can play, with a riverside calm to match its history.

About Beaver Meadow Golf Course

Beaver Meadow is New Hampshire's oldest golf course. In 1895 a handful of Concord players, among them Mabel Hill, Harriet Huntress and Paul Holden, began hitting balls in fields near a city cemetery, and in 1896 they paid Scottish professional Willie Campbell $50 to lay out nine holes. A club formed soon after, grew to about 120 members and built its first clubhouse in 1899. Beaver Meadow hosted the first New Hampshire Amateur championships in 1899 and 1900, and again in 1901 and 1906. In 1930 most members left to found Concord Country Club across the Merrimack River, and the city took over the course, settling a land-title problem with a $6,000 payment in 1954. With added land and federal funds, the course was expanded to 18 holes to a Geoffrey Cornish design in 1968. Beaver Meadow later hosted the 1975 State Amateur, a Futures/Symetra Tour stop from 2005 to 2013, and the 2016 NHGA Stroke Play Championship.
