Est. 1969 · Francis Duane (front nine, 1969); William Gressick (back nine, 2000)
Why we love this place
We love Thunderhart for its split personality. Open mountain views on Duane's front nine, then a forest-carved back nine that feels like a different course. Family-owned, public, and set up for golf trips with rooms and a pool on site.

About Thunderhart Golf Course
Thunderhart Golf Course grew in two distinct chapters on Route 67 in Freehold, in Greene County's Great Northern Catskills about 35 minutes south of Albany. The traditionally styled front nine, designed by Francis Duane, opened in 1969 and still delivers wide, sweeping views of the Northern Catskill Mountains. In 2000, PGA professional William Gressick added the back nine, carving a parkland-style stretch through the property's thick forest, so the round changes character at the turn. The Krasney family bought the course in 2022 and has kept improving the course and facilities. Today the family-owned, par-72 public course pairs golf with an on-site hotel, pool and grill, making it a Stay & Play base for Catskills golf trips.
