Why we love this place

A card game, sixteen friends and a Frank Duane design turned a remote Manorville parcel into a Long Island institution. We love Rock Hill for a layout that still tests low handicappers, its charity-outing heart and the homegrown spirit that has launched so many golf careers.

About Rock Hill Country Club

Rock Hill Golf & Country Club in Manorville grew out of a card game among friends in the mid-1960s. Sixteen founding members recruited investors and bought a remote parcel of eastern Long Island, and architect Frank Duane, an associate of Robert Trent Jones who later partnered in Arnold Palmer's design business, invested in the venture and designed the course. Rock Hill opened around 1965 as a nine-hole layout with a trailer serving as the clubhouse, at the end of a dusty trail that few golfers bothered to travel at first. It later grew to eighteen holes, and the club restaurant now stands where that trailer once sat. Over five decades Rock Hill has become a favored venue for charity outings and a training ground for many Long Island golf professionals.
