Sugar Mountain Public Golf Course opened in 1974 in the resort village of Sugar Mountain near Banner Elk and Boone. It was designed by Frank Duane, who had spent more than two decades as a senior project manager for architect Robert Trent Jones. The compact par-64 layout plays across roughly 60 scenic mountain acres and is frequently rated among the top short courses in the country. It operates as a public course.
