Wilson Country Club opened in 1915 and grew rapidly after World War II. In 1973 the club moved to its current site across town with a new 18-hole course designed by prolific Carolinas architect Willard Byrd, later renovated by John LaFoy in 2005. The private club has hosted multiple Carolinas Golf Association championships and U.S. Open qualifiers, and was acquired by McConnell Golf in 2023.
