The public golf course on the grounds of the former Fort Devens is Red Tail Golf Club, opened in 2002 and designed by Brian Silva. Fort Devens was an Army installation dating to 1917; the course was built on part of that acreage after 1996 redevelopment, and Silva incorporated Fort Devens relics, including repurposed ammunition bunkers near the 17th and a surviving lookout tower by the 18th tee.
