About Dyker Beach Golf Course

Dyker Beach opened in 1897 on marshy Brooklyn common land the Van Dyke family once tried to drain with dikes — the name's origin. It is the second-oldest course in New York City after Van Cortlandt and is credited to Tom Bendelow. In 1935–36 John Van Kleek rebuilt it with new tees and greens as part of the New Deal-funded overhaul of the city's public courses. Still city-owned in Dyker Heights, it is one of the most-played public golf courses in the country.
