Lochmere Golf And Country Club

Est. 1992 · Phil Wogan (built with George Sargent)
Why we love this place

Lochmere is a family story you can play: a retiree's ten-hole dream on Route 3 that grew into a full 18 by 1997 and is still run by the Chailles. We love its tight Phil Wogan fairways, the water in play, and the Lakes Region welcome that comes with every tee time.

About Lochmere Golf And Country Club

Lochmere Golf & Country Club grew out of a retirement project. Jerry Chaille, a former auto mechanic who had owned cab companies in Somerville, Massachusetts, moved to New Hampshire's Lakes Region with his wife and set out to build a small nine-hole course in Tilton. When a deal to buy a nearby nine-hole course fell through, he bought about 70 acres on Route 3 and had a ten-hole course built, which opened in 1992. Phil Wogan designed the layout, with George Sargent credited alongside him on the construction. The Chailles kept adding land, and by 1997 Lochmere had become a full 18-hole course on a property of roughly 200 acres. The fairways are known for being narrow, and water comes into play on several holes. The course earned a four-star rating from Golf Digest, and in 2005 Chaille received a New Hampshire Business Review Business Excellence Award for hospitality. The Chaille family still owns and operates Lochmere as a public course with seasonal memberships.
