Ojai Valley Inn's course dates to 1923, when glass industrialist Edward Drummond Libbey hired George C. Thomas Jr., with Billy Bell, to build a country club and 18-hole course in the Ojai Valley. Libbey reportedly gave Thomas free rein. Thomas later wrote that he considered Ojai "far and away above" the other courses he had helped build, and those words are on a rock at the first tee. Two original holes were lost after World War II, and Jay Morrish toughened the course in a 1988 renovation. The resort has since restored the two lost holes, and it hosted Senior PGA Tour events.
