Est. 1926 · Devereux Emmet (original nine, 1926); Geoffrey Cornish (second nine)
Why we love this place

Appleton is a college course with Golden Age roots, an Emmet nine and a Cornish nine in the quiet North Country. Open, well-kept and good value, it is the kind of friendly, historic round that makes a trip to Canton worthwhile.

About Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course

The Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course belongs to St. Lawrence University in Canton, in New York's North Country, and serves as home course for the university's golf teams. Golf there dates to 1926, when Devereux Emmet, the prolific Long Island architect behind Bethpage's Green course and Congressional's Blue, designed the original nine holes. The course was later expanded to 18 with a second nine designed by Geoffrey Cornish, the New England architect known for hundreds of courses across the Northeast. Today the par-72 layout measures about 6,700 yards from the championship tees. Located about ten minutes south of Potsdam and a little more than an hour from Watertown, it is open to public play, offers golf packages with a nearby hotel, and hosts college events such as the St. Lawrence Invitational along with many club tournaments and functions throughout the season.
