About Pinecrest Golf Club (Avon Park)

Built as the private Pinecrest Lakes club by Col. Royal Page Davidson from 1925; nine holes were done by the end of 1925 and it grew to 18 in 1935-36. Donald Ross is widely credited with the design (he visited in 1926), though the Florida Historic Golf Trail credits Bert Way. It hosted a televised World Championship Golf event in 1959 won by Cary Middlecoff. The City of Avon Park took over in the early 1970s; it is now privately owned and semi-private, open to public play.
