Pottawatomie opened in 1939, funded by a Works Progress Administration grant that also paid for a ball field, swimming pool and amphitheater. Robert Trent Jones designed the nine-hole course along the Fox River, and its third hole was his first island green. The St. Charles Park District owns it and built a timber wall in 2020 to stop erosion of the island green.
