About Quail Hollow Club
Founded in 1959 and opened in 1961, Quail Hollow was designed by George Cobb — fresh off building the par-3 course at Augusta National — on former Charlotte farmland. Arnold Palmer's firm reworked several holes in 1986, and Tom Fazio began a series of redesigns in 1997 that shaped it into a modern major venue. It has hosted the PGA Championship (2017 and 2025), the 2022 Presidents Cup, and the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo/Truist Championship. In 2010 a 20-year-old Rory McIlroy won his first PGA Tour title here, closing with a bogey-free, course-record 62 — prompting Jim Nantz's call: "Welcome to the big time, Rory McIlroy."
