Reading Country Club was founded in 1923. Scottish-born Alexander Findlay laid out its original nine holes and expanded the course to 18 in 1925, and the layout remains largely original. After the first clubhouse burned in 1930, a Tudor-style replacement was completed in 1931. Exeter Township bought the club in 2006, saving the land from development and opening the course to the public, and the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
