Shady Oaks Country Club was founded by Fort Worth merchant Marvin Leonard (who also founded Colonial) and built in 1958 on former farmland in the Westover Hills area west of downtown Fort Worth. Leonard hired architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. to design the course. Shady Oaks is best known as the home club of golf legend Ben Hogan, a founding member and Leonard's longtime friend, who played there nearly every day when in town. It is a private club.
