Est. 2008 · Bill Johnston
Why we love this place
We love The Hideout for being worth the drive. Bill Johnston's course rolls through big oaks and creek beds beside Lake Brownwood, the cabins make it an easy golf weekend, and the staff's small-town hospitality keeps players coming back to the middle of Texas.

About The Hideout Golf Club & Resort
The Hideout Golf Club & Resort sits on the shores of Lake Brownwood, just outside Brownwood in the heart of Texas, about two and a half hours from both Austin and Dallas. Its 18-hole, par-72 course, designed by Bill Johnston, opened for play in 2008, routed among giant oaks and winding creeks with Bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens. Built during a rough economic stretch, the property went through several changes of ownership before settling into its current form as a lakefront resort with lodge rooms, family cabins and ranch houses alongside the golf. In 2023 the owners brought in Troon to run golf operations, agronomy and marketing. The course has become a regular on golfer-voted lists of the best in Texas, valued as much for its friendly, out-of-the-way feel as for the golf.
