The Minikahda Club

The Minikahda Club opened in 1898 on a bluff above Bde Maka Ska in southwest Minneapolis and is widely regarded as the oldest country club west of the Mississippi River. Its championship pedigree is remarkable for a Midwestern club: the 1916 U.S. Open, won by amateur Chick Evans with a record-setting total that stood for two decades, and the 1927 U.S. Amateur, where Bobby Jones captured the third of his five Amateur titles by defeating Evans in the final. Donald Ross was engaged to rework the layout after the 1916 Open, though World War I delayed his changes until around 1920. The parkland course rolls over glacial terrain with mature trees, small greens and classic strategic bunkering, and it remains a private club steeped in early American championship history.
