The Shattuck Golf Club

Est. 1991 · Brian Silva
Why we love this place

The Shattuck is New Hampshire golf at its most dramatic: Brian Silva's holes squeezed between granite, wetlands and Mount Monadnock itself. Bring extra balls and a sense of humor for the Gauntlet, then enjoy one of the most breathtaking mountain settings in New England. It is a bucket-list test hiding in Jaffrey.

About The Shattuck Golf Club

The Shattuck Golf Club opened in 1991 in Jaffrey, carved from the granite foothills of Mount Monadnock in southwestern New Hampshire. Architect Brian Silva designed the course and later called the site the most spectacular setting he had ever encountered. Silva built a demanding target-golf layout through dense woods, where accuracy mattered far more than length: sixteen water hazards affected more than half of the holes, thirty-three bridges carried players across wetlands and streams, and three greens were built as islands. The par-71 course stretched to about 6,764 yards and, from the back tees, carried a rating of 75.0 and a slope of 147, figures that made it one of the toughest public tests in New England; Golf Digest once placed it on its list of the 50 most difficult courses in the country. Its best-known holes were the 612-yard fifth, called the Gauntlet, whose narrow green sat tucked into a rock ledge behind a small stream, and the 564-yard sixth, a par 5 with two landing areas and a marsh-guarded green. The course was operated by Sterling Golf Management.
