About Thunderbolt Pass Golf Course
Thunderbolt Pass, on Petersburg Road across U.S. 41 from Evansville Regional Airport, began in the early 1970s as Hamilton Golf Club, built by Evansville native Bob Hamilton, the Reitz High graduate who won the 1944 PGA Championship and had long served as head pro at the city's Helfrich Hills. In 1975 Hamilton shot a 59 on his own course, then the youngest golfer on record to shoot his age. The 18-hole public course was later renamed Thunderbolt Pass.
