Ballyhack Golf Club

Ballyhack Golf Club opened in 2009 on a rugged 370-acre tract outside Roanoke, Virginia, in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The project sprang from architect Lester George, a Virginia native who first spotted the former Saul Family Farm parcel around 2003 while in town for a First Tee event and became determined to build golf there once the land became available. Reportedly built at a cost near $15 million, Ballyhack embraces its dramatic, tumbling valley setting with big-scale movement, expansive fescue, rough-edged sandy bunkering, and bold greens that lean into the natural land rather than tame it. The private club developed a national reputation as a raw, wind-exposed, links-inspired inland course paired with an easygoing, golf-first membership culture. It stands as arguably George's most acclaimed and adventurous design.
