Black Butte Ranch

Golf at this Central Oregon resort, tucked beneath the Cascades near Sisters, began in 1970 when architect Robert Muir Graves routed the Big Meadow course across open meadowland framed by ponderosa pines and mountain views. A second layout, Glaze Meadow, followed in 1982, designed by Gene "Bunny" Mason, the resort's longtime head professional who turned course architect. Both par-72 tracks give the ranch a true 36-hole identity. Big Meadow later received an update from Damian Pascuzzo, while Glaze Meadow underwent an extensive John Fought renovation completed around 2012 that reworked bunkering and greens in a classical style. Together the courses helped establish Black Butte Ranch, and Central Oregon broadly, as a golf destination, pairing accessible resort playability with dramatic high-country scenery.
