Boyne Resorts - Ross Memorial Course

The Donald Ross Memorial Course at Boyne's Highlands resort in Harbor Springs is a tribute layout whose eighteen holes reproduce some of the most celebrated holes Donald Ross designed across his career. Opened in 1989 under architect Bill Newcomb, the course gathers 'greatest hits' from courses such as Pinehurst No. 2, Oakland Hills, Seminole, Inverness and Oak Hill, giving public golfers a chance to sample designs that are otherwise mostly private. Each hole is presented with signage explaining its original source and the shot values Ross intended. In 2020 Michigan architect Ray Hearn led a renovation that used modern mapping and technology to render the replicas more faithfully to Ross's originals. The result is both a playable resort course and a walking museum of classic American golf architecture set in the hills of northern Michigan.
