About Country Club Of New Bedford
The Country Club of New Bedford traces to New Bedford's first golf course (the nine-hole Hawthorn links of 1897-98); when that became overcrowded the club relocated to an approximately 86-acre former farm in Dartmouth, establishing itself there in 1902. On March 28, 1922 the board hired Scottish architect Willie Park Jr., whose 18-hole layout was completed by September 1923. The club long attributed its design to Donald Ross, but research begun in 2016 established Park, not Ross, as the architect.
